A couple weeks ago, me and the rest of the wifey’s family spent a week in the Shenandoah valley just outside of Luray for a family vacation. Luckily, there were a couple extremely clear nights; perfect for astrophotography. Having taken star photos at Shenandoah National Park before, I went into the night looking for new and interesting compositions. Originally, I had planned on visiting a southern facing viewpoint along Skyline Drive which had a sweeping view of the mountains and valleys surrounding the park. When I got to the park at night, however, I found a lot of the more interesting shots utilized foreground elements much closer to me. A simple set of trees, a park sign, and even my car itself, made for some awesome Milky Way images. Here’s what I came up with!
